A predominant feature of The Hapuna Beach Prince site is the presence of a series of underground springs. In ancient times, during seasons of heavy rainfall these springs would bubble to the surface creating natural artesian fountains. The resultant streams would provide a source of respite and renewal for travelers along the otherwise dry and barren Kohala Coast. Thus the area was named /Hapuna/ or /Spring of Life/ in the Hawaiian language. There is so much to see and experience at the Hapuna Beach Hotel. You can be busy from morning to night, or if you choose you can relax and soak in the rays on the long white sand beach. The Hapuna Golf Course is an 18-hole championship golf course nestled in the dramatic natural contours of the land from the shoreline to about 700 feet above sea level. The course offers spectacular views of the Kohala coast and the Pacific Ocean while majestic Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Kohala Mountains form the backdrop. In addition, guests may also elect to play at the world famous Mauna Kea Golf course, rated one of the best courses in the state. In addition to the freshwater pool and poolside Jacuzzi, guests can enjoy the white sands of lovely crescent shores of Kauna'oa Bay or no.1 rated Hapuna Beach. Activities include swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, outrigger canoe paddling, sailing, kayaking, catamaran riding, whale watching and deep-sea fishing. One of the "best beaches on the island", combined with access to an "excellent" Arnold Palmer/Ed Seay–designed golf course, makes this "quiet" Kohala Coast lodging a sometimes "overlooked gem"; some of the otherwise "ordinary" rooms have "fantastic" ocean views, but a few faultfinders feel it "fails in the dining department"; N.B. its sister resort, the Mauan Kea, is closed for renovations.

We came for the beach access, but the hotel grounds and lobby area were beautiful.
Restaurant food was quite expensive, though I didn't actually eat it. Looked at menus only.
Fabulous view and beach, beautiful grounds and quite at night for sleeping. Beautiful and spacious room also.

Destination resort hotel with a beautiful beach and pool at your fingertips.
Nothing that we didn't love but it is somewhat isolated for some probably .
This is our favorite hotel in the Waikoloa area (we have stayed here before). We know most of the resort hotels well and their facilities and this is truly the best because of it's infinity pool and gorgeous beach. ...read more

Very attractive facility on beautiful beach. Room was nicely appointed, furniture a little dated. Service very good. The location is quite remote (sister hotel 10 minutes away). Food overpriced and not that good. $200 for dinner for two and bottle of wine, first night. Better have a car. Some very nice restaurants in Waimea and little port town of Kawaihea. The rooms need a makeover, but because the rooms are so close to the ocean, the humidity plays a big part in the rooms looking bad.
Others have stated that the rooms are dated and I agree. However, the buildings are so close to the ocean that ongoing maintenance is a constant challenge.
